This study examined the influence of spectral frequency of tone pips on the integration of tone pip sequences with and without motion based on interaural time difference (ITD). Two tone-pips, target (T) and distractor (D), and a silent duration (-) formed a sub-sequence (DTD-) and this sub-sequence was repeatedly presented. The frequency difference was introduced between T and D. The D was also given gradually-modulated ITD to invoke smooth auditory motion along the interaural axis. The task of the listeners was to determine whether the repeated sequences of DTD- had a T sequence without motion or not. The results of Experiment 1 showed that the T sequence without motion was rarely reported when the frequency difference between T and D was small. To rule out the possibility that the listeners’ reports were dependent solely on the frequency difference, the T was also given gradually-modulated ITD as the D was given. Even in this condition, the T sequence without motion was reported less frequently when the frequency difference was small. These results indicate that the location of tone pips invoked by ITD is integrated among tone pips with similar spectral frequency. |
