Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Synthetic focusing methods, superimposing pre-acquired multi-view images onto the post-defined surfaces, intend to simulate cameras with very large apertures and variable focuses. In this paper, we demonstrate a system of synthetic focusing with an increased flexibility. The flexiblity comes from the fact that we can control the optical focuses of the input multi-view images independently. We compactly arraged liquid lens in an 8x8 array, whose focal lengths can be changed independently by electric signals, and located a video camera behind the lens array for capturing multi-view images. We proved that if the optical and synthetic focuses coincide with each other, we can obtain more natural blurring effects on the resulting images. Furthermore, we can also set the optical focuses to multiple levels to increase the depth range of the synthetic focus.
