When the electrical contact is driven to break, the bridge makes the arc discharge. It has been found that there are two different type arcs with and without re-bridge at slowly breaking contact. It is needed to clarify the relationship on the phenomena between arc discharge and bridge phenomenon for highly reliable contact devices. As the bridge is considered a heat source at the contact point where the current concentrates, the duration of the arc discharge will be influenced by the change of the heating amount at the bridge. In this paper, to clarify the relation between bridge and arc, the opening velocity and the closed current are varied from 80μm/s to 102mm/s and 1.2A to 5A as the heat amount change. In the experimental result, when the opening velocity is set slowly, the length of extinction of arc is shorter than the calculated value obtained from already known V-I characteristic. It is also demonstrated by changing opening velocity and closed current that the duration of bridge and the duration of short-time arc at soon after the bridge and the duration of short-time arc and the duration of the bridge at soon after the short-time arc have some relationships each other. |
