Prosodic cues in speech language convey information of speaker’s emotions and intentions. It is also known that prosodic cues produce rhythms characteristic of each language, and reveal an important clue to identify the segment positions both semantically and syntactically in speech. It is considered that in second language acquisition, ability to speculate key parts of conversations and emotional state of speaker, which are expressed by prosodic cues, is very important especially under conditions of limited vocabulary. In this paper, we examine how Japanese-English learners pay attention to prosodic cues in spoken English sentences through two experiments and validate relativity between the results of the experiments and TOEFL score. |
