| 抄録 | （和） | 英語文産出において短い句や節を先に置く傾向(短長語順傾向: Short-before-long tendency)は，文産出の負荷によって説明されている．つまり，逐次処理的(incremental)な文産出過程において短い句や節を先に置く方が容易で経済的であるとしている．一方，日本語では長い句や節を先に置く傾向(長短語順傾向: Long-before-short tendency)があることが知られている．しかし，なぜ英語と日本語で語順とその長さの関係が異なるのかは十分な説明がなされていない．そこで本稿では，文産出におけるフィラーやいい間違えなどの「言いよどみ」を解析することによって日本語文産出時の負荷を検討した．その結果，「言いよどみ」の出現率は，Long-before-shortおよびShort-before-longによって有意な差はなく，長い句や節の前の「言いよどみ」の出現率が高いことが示された．本結果は，日本語の語順における短長語順傾向が文産出の負荷では説明できないことを意味する．本結果を，英語が主要語が先行 (head-initial) し語順が比較的固定であるのに対し，日本語は主要語が後置(head-final)され語順が比較的自由であるという言語間の性質の違いから考察する． |
| （英） | The Short-before-long tendency in English, a head-initial language with rigid word-order, has been explained in terms of the ease of production. In producing sentences incrementally, it is easier and therefore more economical to say a short phrase ahead of a long phrase for speakers of English The current study tested whether the Long-before-short tendency in Japanese is also driven by efficiency of the production load. The occurrences of production difficulty, as reflected in disfluencies in a spoken corpus (the Corpus of Spontaneous Japanese), were measured. The results showed that the frequency of disfluency markers (fillers and errors) in Long-before-short sentences did not differ from that of the Short-before-long sentences. Furthermore, disfluency markers were more likely to occur before long phrases than short phrases overall. The results suggest that producing long phrases in Japanese is difficult, and producing sentences in the Long-before-short order does not reduce the production load. Alternative accounts of length preference in Japanese, based on the characteristics of the language, are discussed. | |
