Anisotropic Spike Propagation by STDP and Inhibition in a Recurrent Network.
Toshikazu Samura, Hatsuo Hayashi (Kyushu Inst. of Tech.) NLP2009-105
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In the area CA1, spikes propagate along the longitudinal axis of the hippocampus.
It is highly possible that the propagation of CA1 is induced by anisotropic propagation in the area CA3 in which neurons are interconnected like recurrent networks.
It has been suggested that isotropic propagation emerges by STDP in recurrent networks.
In this paper, we demonstrate that anisotropic propagation emerges by STDP in a recurrent network with anisotropic inhibition that counteracts propagation in a particular direction.
Moreover, we show that propagation pathways coexist in a network.
Finally, we suggest the possibility of a novel computation based on the spike propagation.
