(in English) An approach is outlined for assessing the performance of speech recognition engines in computer assisted language learning (CALL) systems. A set of metrics is proposed to assess three key functions of speech recognition: alignment, line scoring, and error detection. As an illustration of the approach, some results from using the EnglishCentral (www.englishcentral.com) system are described.
