Development of Small-sized Optical Module for HPCF Single-fiber Bi-directional Communication

(in English) This paper describes a small-sized optical module for HPCF(Hard Polymer Clad Fiber) Single-fiber Bi-directional communication systems, that is used for optical LAN in factory, at home and in automobile. This module consists of VCSEL(λ=850nm ,780nm) as a light source, Si PIN-PD as a receiver. We make Tx and Rx on the same circuit board for a miniaturization. Optical components consist of an optical connecting part made of transparent resin and an optical filter which make it possible to split the optical ray and to cut the wavelength of crosstalk. Lenses, a prism, a sleeve and a stand of optical filter are integrated into the optical connecting part in order to minimize its size. To simplify the manufacturing process, all components are able to be mounted on a circuit board. The size of prototype module is W6.7×H6.5×L14mm. The prototype modules were tested with HPCF at 1Gbps(@25℃). The receiver sensitivities of them are -14.2dBm@850nm and -16.1dBm@780nm. The power penalties of them are less then 0.3dB.
