FPGA Implementation of Discrete Wavlet Transform Using Impulse C

(in English) Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT), that is used for Image compression on JPEG2000, makes theoreticallyless noises than Discrete Cosine Transform(DCT), that is used on traditional JPEG. However, the compressionratio of DWT is lower than DCT and the procces of computation requires high frequently memory access, so thatDWT isn’t suitable for embedded system. Hardware accelarator is effective to solve such problems. If we used onlyASIC, it requires high costs and long development time. On the other hand, FPGA is used for easy prototyping forASIC to try new design, although developing a prototype of large and complicated system, such like graphic processing,takes long time too. High-Level Synthesis is gathering attention as a solution for this problem. It automaticallygenerates RTL through Standard ANSI-C so as to shorten developing time. In this paper, we implemented DWTthat consists of Daubecies’ wavelet using ImpulseC, the High-Level Syntheis Language for FPGAs. As a result, weachived approximatly 50 times faster result than software execution.
