QoS Control on IP Multicast Flow in NGN Architecture Driven by IGMP Signalling

(in English) Session-based QoS control technique of NGN framework enables QoS control of IP multicast traffic. Typically, the NGN-based QoS control mechanism utilizes SIP signaling for acquiring session information between a contents server and user terminals, which requires to deploy SIP signaling functions on end-hosts (application servers, user terminals). However, introducing the NGN-based QoS control mechanism to existing non SIP-based IP multicast system induces tremendous system upgrade costs. This paper proposes a mechanism for a session-based QoS control in non-SIP IP multicast systems. In the proposed mechanism, the session-based QoS control is executed at edge routers by coordinating with a QoS server of NGN framework. Since the proposed mechanism uses IGMP signaling messages to trigger the QoS control, it does not require any change on end-hosts of existing IP multicast systems. The design of the prototype implementation of the proposed mechanism is described, and a demonstration of a multicast resource control operation using actual equipment is carried out.
