(in English) Taking account of the future evolving digital communications network, G.711-PCM was standardized in 1972, as the first speech coding recommendation in the ITU-T (formerly, CCITT). Under the background of digitalization of telephone networks, we have started quality studies on the digital communication services. This paper describes the author’s history and perspective on the research and standardization of speech quality assessment methodologies in digital communication networks and services.
