Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this paper, we discuss the observability of mixed-mode oscillations(MMOs) in a slow-fast dynamical circuit. Our model is the extended
Bonhoeffer van der Pol oscillator. A motivation of our research work
presented in this paper is that it is very hard to observe MMOs from
this oscillator and chaotic behaviors are often observed in laboratory
experiments even though MMOs should be often observed in numerical
simulation for the oscillator. Our hypothesis for this phenomena is that
the MMOs are submerged by chaos because of noises which are induced in
the surrounding of the experimental circuits. Such noise will drive the
circuit and it might cause the submergence of MMOs in chaotic behavior.
To explain our observed experimental experiences, we propose to
analyze a third order oscillator under weak periodic perturbation as
noise. Our numerical simulations show that chaos is
generated in place of mixed-mode oscillations under very weak periodic
perturbation. We draw a two-parameter
bifurcation diagram. In this bifurcation diagram, it is found that
period-doubling bifurcations take place when the amplitude of the
periodic perturbation is extremely small. We can explain the chaos
generation observed in experiment by these period-doubling
bifurcations.
