IVC (Inter-Vehicular Communications) is the key technology to realize the next generation ITS. The authors have developed Vehicular Collision Avoidance Support System (VCASS) based on IVC in order to prevent a vehicular collision accident beforehand. VCASS grasps the relative locations of vehicles by exchanging the GPS information in each vehicle. VCASS warns drivers if it detects the danger of vehicular collisions. Hence VCASS can drastically reduce the potential accidents of vehicular collisions. Advanced safety technologies such as VCASS will popularize in future. However, VCASS causes warning errors and unnecessary warnings by temporal GPS errors.
In this paper, we focus on the position estimation to resolve the above problems. We propose an adaptive position estimation method by switching LSM (Least Square Method) and INS (Inertial Navigation System) in order to improve the accuracy of position estimation. We compare the performance of the conventional position estimation with that of proposed adaptive position estimation in experiments. As a result, we show that the proposed method is able to perform accurate position estimation for VCASS. |
