Preparation of Cu2ZnSnS4 Thin Film for solar cell

Cu$_2$ZnSnS$_4$ thin films have been prepared by sulfurization of stacked precursor of metal/sulfide compounds (Cu, ZnS, SnS$_2$) under diluted H$_2$S gas, and sulfurization of stacked precursor of metals (Cu, Zn, Sn) under elemental sulfur vapor. A solar cell with conversion efficiency of 3.58% was obtained in using precursors of metal/sulfide compounds. In the case of metallic precursors, cells having conversion efficiency higher than 2% were obtained. In comparing the Cu$_2$ZnSnS$_4$ thin films prepared by the precursors of metal/sulfide compounds with that of metallic precursors, it was found that the morphology at Cu$_2$ZnSnS$_4$/Mo junction was improved in using metallic precursors, though the surface morphology and crystalline quality were better in using precursors of metal/sulfide compounds. It was noted that an improvement in the adhesion of film at the Cu$_2$ZnSnS$_4$/Mo junction, and the formation of a single phase Cu$_2$ZnSnS$_4$ thin film without any pin-hole defects was important in order to achieve higher efficiency solar cell. |
