[Poster Presentation] On the difference between Bayes and Variational Bayes in a normal mixture

(in English) Variational Bayes method or mean field approximation
is widely used because it enables us to estimate the information source
accurately with small computational costs. However,
both the difference from Bayes to variational Bayes and
the effect of local minima have been left unknown.
Recently, we proposed a new method how to calculate
the rigorous Bayes free energy. In this paper,
by comparing the variational Bayes free energy with
the Bayes free energy, we clarify the difference of two
methods experimentally. The effects of singularities
of the posterior distribution and the design of the
hyperparameter are discussed in a normal mixture model.
