Canceling and Metric-Combining Multiuser Detection for Uplink OFDMA Packet Systems with Retransmission Control

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This report considers an uplink OFDMA packet mobile communication system that can multiplex plural packets of mobile stations (MSs) within the same time and frequency-band, and then proposes a multiuser detection (MUD) scheme that can combine retransmitted packets while separating multiplexed packets with low complexity. As a conventional scheme, the metric-combining MUD (MC-MUD) combines retransmitted packets by using the metric, that is the squared Euclid distance between the received signal and its replica. When packets are correctly received, the throughput of MC-MUD degrades because it cannot multiplex new packets and needs to retransmit the same packets for keeping complexity of each retransmission constant. To overcome such a problem, this report proposes canceling and metric-combining MUD (CMC-MUD) that can multiplex new packets of MSs so as to improve the throughput. CMC-MUD reduces the number of states of MLD by using replica signals of correctly received packets, and optimally combines retransmitted packets by using the metric without increasing the number of states. Computer simulations demonstrate that CMC-MUD can achieve the excellent throughput performance compared with conventional ones, and evaluate the performance of CMC-MUD with hybrid ARQ and adaptive modulation and coding.
