Amplitude Adjustment Spur Suppression Technique of a Digital Frequency Synthesizer Using a PH-DAC

(in English) This paper presents a novel spur suppression technique for a direct digital synthesizer (DDS) with a phase holding digital-to-analog converter (PH-DAC). A PH-DAC, which uses a reverse-sign step-function as a sampling pulse waveform, enhances the first image of aliasing, which is of higher frequency than the fundamental. Here the first image is treated as a desired signal, while the fundamental and the second image are spurs. This paper describes a novel spur suppression technique by reverse-phase cancellation. To obtain equal signal amplitudes at spur frequencies, the proposed technique adjusts amplitude coefficients of a signal according to the output frequency. Evaluated spur levels of the proposed DDS in the L-band are from -38.6 to -24 dBc, and are improved by 13.5 dB or more.
