[Invited Talk] Study on the damping constant of magnetic thin film using a coplanar waveguide (CPW)-ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) measurement method

(in English) This paper reports the study on the damping constants (α) of NixFe1-x (0.65<x<0.86) and (Ni-Fe)1-yMy (M=Pt, Au, Pd, Cr; 0<y<0.15) films on glass substrate using a CPW-FMR measurement, and discusses the effect of saturation magnetostriction (λs) on α in these films in detail. In the case of NixFe1-x films, α slightly decreases for 0.67 < x < 0.78, and then increases for 0.78 < x < 0.85, resulting in a minimum α at x=0.78. λs monotonically decreases from positive value to negative one with increasing x, and is zero near x=0.81. In the case of (Ni-Fe)1-yMy films, both α and |λs| linearly increases with increasing y. Furthermore, the increments of α and the absolute value of λs (|λs|) to y are markedly enhanced in the order of M = Pt, Au, Pd, and Cr suggesting that 5d transition metal dopants are more influential on both α and λs than 3d and 4d transition metal dopants due to the strong spin-orbit interaction. Based on these results, it is speculated that the dominant factor of α in NixFe1-x and (Ni-Fe)1-xMx films is the magnetoelastic energy (Eσ). These results also demonstrate that α can be controlled effectively through the change in Eσ by transition metal dopants.
