A Simple Formulation for Numerical Dispersion Error by 2-D and 3-D FDTD Method

(in English) The finite-different time-domain (FDTD) method has been widely used to analyze propagation and scattering of electromagnetic wave in recent years. However, the FDTD method is second order accuracy in space, numerical dispersion error is caused by truncated higher-order term of Taylor expansion. Also this error is increased by propagation distance on large-scale analysis. The numerical dispersion error is formulated by a dispersion relation equation. However, it is difficult to solve the equation which is non-linear and has many parameters. Thus, a simple formulation is needed to substitute for the dispersion relation equation. In this study, we have presented a simple formulation for the numerical dispersion error of 2-D and 3-D FDTD method by cell size and propagation distance.
