A Study of Via-Points Based on the Minimum Jerk Model as Features for Sign Language Translation

(in English) Sign language is an important means of communication with deaf people. In this study, we examine the sign language translation using the motion data of the arm. In a sign language translation system, a test motion data is compared with the registered data previously measured. However, because quantity of the input motion data is enormous, it is difficult to translate in real time when the raw data is directly compared. Therefore, some features should be extracted from motion data to translate effectively. We focus that the sign language motion is a human arm movement and propose a translation method based-on the extracted via-points using the minimum jerk model, which is a criterion of the human arm movement, as the features of the sign language motion.
