I will demonstrate how learners analyze their own and others’ conversations and try to improve their speaking skills, utilizing meta-cognitive skills in a Japanese language classroom. In this class, the learners first objectively analyze the verbal and nonverbal behaviors in video-taped Japanese conversations. Then, they try to participate in Japanese conversations using the conversational devices they have analyzed. Afterwards, they analyze and reflect on their own conversations, using meta-cognition. I will examine these learners’ classroom activities, as well as the significance of the activities in which learners have opportunities to train their meta-cognitive skills using video-taped conversations in the classroom. |
