Digital Cinema, which is expected to spread in the near future, contains about $4,000 \times 2,000$ pixels, and employs the JPEG 2000 codec.
JPEG 2000 has some advantages, but this codec requires massive process time, thus its real time software implementation seems to be impossible.
The GPGPU (General Purpose computing on GPU) adopting GPU to general-parallel computing receives a lot of attention recently.
Some studies have reported that GPGPU achieves 100 times faster processing than CPU in the specic case.
In this study, we implement 2D-DWT program using multiple GPGPUs for real-time Digital Cinema, and realized 87 FPS processing. |
