Introduction of Spatial Limitation to Human Detection by Co-occurrence with Shape and Color Self-Similarity Features

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this paper, we propose a method for human detection with a spatial limitation introduced to the co-occurrence algorithm of features learned by AdaBoost. AdaBoost gives large weights to incorrect identification samples and focuses on learning them. If samples are difficult to classify, AdaBoost gives excess weights to them, and over-training may become a problem. When calculating the co-occurrence of features, we limited the spatial arrangements of the features by some rules such as in the same image column, row or neighborhood. As a result, we could reduce the number of candidates of co-occurrence maintaining identification accuracy at the same level. Therefore, introducing the spatial limitation for human detection algorithm is efficient in learning cost.
