NICT has been developing a test model of an optically controlled beam-forming network(OBFN) for a future multiple-beam antenna. This OBFN test model consists of an electro-optic converter unit, an OBFN unit and an opto-electronic converter unit.
For the demonstration of the OBFN, we manufactured the OBFN test model for this antenna and confirmed good agreement between the expected and calculated radiation patterns obtained the measured OBFN data. Moreover, we performed communication tests involving a bit error rate (BER) test for the digital communication link. We confirmed that the OBFN had no serious effect on BER performance. |
