GiantCutlery: A dining table communication medium that educes mutual-aid interactions among tablemates around platters

(in English) It is expected that interactions among tablemates arise when they dish out foods from a platter at a dinner time. However, the interactions are actually restricted because the platter’s potential of vitalizing dinner-table communications is not effectively exploited. We focus on “Oshaku,” a Japanese habit: the tablemates pour alcohol drinks each other to vitalize mutual communications. We attempt to incorporate Oshaku behavior into the platters at a dinner time. This paper investigates whether Oshaku behavior can be incorporated into the platter. In addition, we developed GiantCutlery, which is a support medium for dining-table communications. We report results of a pilot study for estimating effectiveness of GiantCutlery.
