A retransmission control scheme realizing both high-throughput and low-transmission delay is proposed for slotted Non-Persistent CSMA that is one of the CSMA schemes those are widely adopted in many wireless communication systems such as IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN. A terminal that detects carrier busy in carrier sense or a terminal that fails to transmit a packet due to the packet collision is called a blocked terminal. The blocked terminal tries to retransmit a packet after the backoff period that is decided based on some algorithms. In the proposed scheme, a backoff period in case of detecting carrier busy in the carrier sense and a backoff period in case of experiencing the packet collision are calculated by the different algorithms. In case of detecting carrier busy, the constant backoff in which the blocked terminal retries after the constant backoff period and the linear backoff in which the blocked terminal retries based on the linearly-increased contention window are used whereas in case of the packet collision, the exponential backoff in which the blocked terminal retries based on the exponentially-increased contention window is used. It is considered that the transmission delay is reduced by taking the constant backoff and the linear backoff when detecting carrier busy that will happen with higher probability than the packet collision. The throughput performance and the transmission delay performance are evaluated by the computer simulations and the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is demonstrated. |
