In human body communication the communication is usually established by the human carrying a transmit electrode to touch a receiver electrode. This is actually a near-field coupling mechanism. It is essential to optimize the coupling between the transmit electrode and receiver electrode in order to obtain the maximum receive voltage. In this study, we investigated a method to improve the receive voltage by adding a circuit element in the transmit electrode. In view of the low frequencies in human body communication, we derived an equivalent circuit for the near-field coupling between the transmit electrode and receive electrode, and clarified that an inductive component addition into the transmit electrode is valid to improve the received voltage. Two methods, one is to use an inductor and the other is to use ferrite material, were proposed to realize the inductive component in the transmit electrode structure. Both numerical simulation and equivalent circuit approximation showed the validity of the proposed transmit electrode structure. |
