Energy-based analysis of electrostatic discharge current -- Assessment of high oscillations in ESD waveform --

(in English) This report describes evaluations of electrostatic discharge (ESD) events from electromagnetic interference (EMI) aspects. IEC 61000-4-2 specifies ESD waveforms for EMC immunity tests. To meet this requirement, the specification of ESD generators for EMC immunity test is adjusted. As a result, ESD waveforms produced by these ESD generators do not necessarily reflect the properties observed in actual environments. To clarify the characteristics of actual ESD waveforms, we used a non-IEC61000-4-2-based generator. Based on measured data for charging voltages of 0.25, 0.5, and 1.0 kV, we examined the energy level of ESD waveforms. As a result, we found that the high-frequency energy, which was related to high oscillations in an ESD waveform, was affected by the material of discharge electrodes and the movement of discharge electrodes.
