Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The pulse wave is a displacement wave of surface skin. This consists of incident and reflected waves and has similar characteristics with the intravascular pressure wave. The reflected wave propagates long distance and contains the vessel stiffness information. We have proposed an evaluation method of arterial stiffness from the amplitude of reflected wave. As blood vessels become stiff, the attenuation of the reflected wave becomes smaller. However, the attenuation might become larger when the viscosity of blood increases. In this study, we next experimentally investigated the effects of both blood viscosity and tube stiffness on the pressure wave propagation.
