We have developed Pedestrian-Vehicular Collision Avoidance Support System(P-VCASS) in order to protect pedestrians from traffic accidents and its effectiveness has been verified. P-VCASS is a system that takes into account the situation of pedestrian movement. It alerts the driver of the vehicle in advance if there is a risk of collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Under today’s traffic environment, there are pedestrians to move around while using mobile devices. They are dangerous for the driver because they have a high probability of walk shakily by concentrating on the use of mobile devices. Hence, we need to take into account the presence of them. In this paper, we propose a vehicular collision avoidance support system to improve the traditional warning system by adding to the information of pedestrians using mobile devices. We show the validity of the proposed algorithm by experiments using vehicle which carried an in-vehicle apparatus in the environment where simulated roadway and sidewalk. As a result, we show that a vehicle driver can take recognition quickly of pedestrians using mobile devices. |
