Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The formant hypothesis of vowel perception, where the lowest two or three formant frequencies are essential cues for vowel quality perception, is widely accepted. However, the signal-detection task provides some evidence that basic psychoacoustic phenomena such as a listener’s accent and the effects of mother tongue may play important roles in vowel perception. For the question, three psychophysical experiments were studied. In the first experiment, it can be found that hearing-impaired person’ voices are clearer than other’s voices for himself. The second experiment, it was experimentally discussed whether the enhancement filters for hearing-impaired person himself formants is useful. From the results, it can be suggested that Japanese consonants are more important than vowels for improvement of word’s articulation. In the third experiment, it was experimentally discussed how to emphasize consonants and whether the emphasizing consonants are useful. The results suggest that emphasize consonant is useful for improvement of word’s articulation. However, it can be said that the consonant /s/ needs a special improvement.
