This cross-linguistics study investigated how different Japanese, Arabic and Thai second language learners orally produce words from their native languages aspects of Verbal Fluency Test. This test, which is widely spread using as clinical and language developmental assessments, is consisted on two different tasks: phonemic and categorical sections. In this study, the qualitative aspects between phonemic and categorical sections were analyzed as the ability of second and native language learners’ word production. On the phonemic sections, the common similarities were less found between three groups in their native and second languages. On the contrary to the pervious study (Pekkala et al. 2009), it was concluded that culture and language differences may contribute to categorical Verbal Fluency performance. The further studies will be focused on the way how the words are clustered and switched to generate among the different groups. |
