Effectiveness on differences between image features of Kanji stimuli in rapid serial visual presentation tasks

(in English) The influence of features of stimulus images for the attentional blink was determined in a RSVP experiment which used Kanji character stimulus. Two types of image feature was objectively defined using a set of coefficients of DCT transform. One is a luminance change between two Kanji characters as stimulus, such as target and distracters, which is expressed using a DC component of DCT coefficients, and the other features is a degree of similarity between two features of Kanji characters which can be defined using DCT sign-only correlation. The relationship between those metrics in above and the viewer’s performance of attentional blink was analyzed. As a result, the transitions of metrics in stimuli between target and distracters influenced the performance of attentional blink. The attentional blink was suppressed by whether luminance change or degree of smilimarity between the target and distracters were relatively large.
