Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Ni-Zirconia cermet is a common material of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) anode. It is normally used under reducing atmosphere, but an emergency shutdown of an SOFC system gives rise to an increase of anode-side partial pressure of oxygen ((p($O_{2}$),a)), and this leads to electrolyte breakdown due to anode volume expansion. In this study, in order to clarify the temperature and (p($O_{2}$),a) conditions under which electrolyte is broken by anode oxidation, we examined how to detect
(p($O_{2}$),a) and electrolyte breakdown condition. We found that (p($O_{2}$),a) can be controlled from $2.0\times 10^{-1}$ to $6.6\times 10^{-6}$atm by the $N_{2}$ flow rate and the $N_{2}$ to $O_{2}$ flow rate ratio, and (p($O_{2}$),a) should be decided by the gas flow rate when using an electrolyte-supported cell. Then, we determined the open circuit voltage recovery and drop conditions at various (p($O_{2}$),a)’s and temperatures and we could find the electrolyte breakdown condition in an anode-supported cell.
