| 抄録 | （和） | 英文を読んで口頭で要約する技術は，英語を利用してコミュニケーションをする職種であれば，研究・ビジネスを問わず重要である．研究者の卵である学部生や大学院生はこのような活動が苦手である．本稿では理工系の学生向けに英語プレゼンテーション講義中に行ったJigsaw Readingを活用した英語口頭サマリーについて報告する．実際には英語文献を読んでレポートさせるのが望ましいが，英語を話すのが苦手な学習者にはハードルが高いこと，本の内容を理解しているかどうかの確認が困難なことが予想されたため，今回は種々の英語読解教材から学生が興味を持ちそうなものを選択し，学生自身に自分で読むものを選択させた．また，30ページ前後の多読本を利用して口頭サマリー活動も行った．初めての実践であったが，学生は気後れすることなく取り組み，お互いによいところを学び合っていた．活動自体も楽しんでいたようである．質的な側面からの改善はこれからの検討課題である． |
| （英） | Regardless of the use, business or academic, Japanese learners of English in undergraduate and graduate schools, who want to be researchers or business-people, need the basic skills to read the literature in their fields as well as the oral skills of summarization and expression of their opinion. Japanese learners, however, are often said to be rather poor at these skills even in their mother tongue; this can be even worse in a foreign language. We report on an oral summarization activity on Jigsaw Reading in an English presentation course for science students from various fields. Although the use of academic scientific papers would be more desirable for those students, the level of difficulty was relatively high for their command of English. Also, the wide variety of topics and highly specialized content in papers can often be too taxing for both teachers and fellow students to fully understand. Therefore, we chose to use English passages from textbooks and 30 pages long books for Extensive Reading instead. Though this was our first attempt at this kind of practice, the students were eager to participate and learn from each other. They acquired the skill of summarization and enjoyed the activity. Still, several improvements need to be made on the the course after careful examination and reflection on the course activity. | |
