Performance Evaluation of Video and Voice Communication considering the Traffic Characteristics in IEEE 802.11n Frame Aggregation

(in English) The demand for multimedia communications, such as video conferencing and voice communication, using IEEE 802.11n has been emerging. Multiple wireless stations with multimedia communication could be used in a single Access Point (AP). However, there have been few studies on the capacity, the maximum number of multimedia stations, of an AP, and on how the frame aggregation introduced in IEEE 802.11n effects on the performance of video and voice communication. This paper, first, evaluates the relationship between the maximum size of A-MPDU (MAC Protocol Data Unit Aggregation) which is one of frame aggregation methods and the performance of video communication. Then, the capacity is evaluated when the A-MPDU is applied to video communication. Finally, this paper proposes a novel method which improves the capacity by combining the frame aggregation and adjusting of the traffic generation rate depending on the communication error rate. Simulation results show the effectiveness the proposed method.
