Energy Saving Control Scheme applying MIMO and Frame Aggregation to IEEE 802.11n

(in English) IEEE 802.11n in which 600Mbps is targeted as the maximum transmission rate has been widely deployed as high-speed wireless LAN. In IEEE 802.11n, MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Output), channel bonding (20MHz*2), LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) , etc. are introduced in PHY layer, and frame aggregation, block ACK, etc. are specified in MAC layer. Power consumption control, such as SMPS (Spatial Multiplexing Power Save) and PSMP (Power Save Multi-Poll) are also defined. This paper proposes a new power saving control scheme for the number of antennas in MIMO and frame aggregation size according to the communication conditions denoted by bit error rate in order to clarify the effect on energy efficiency by the functions enhanced in IEEE 802.11n. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.
