Robust redundant configuration method of information network systems inspired by degeneracy in biological networks

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this report, we propose a design method of information network systems, inspired by degeneracy and redundancy found in biological networks. It achieves high-level robustness against large-scale failures. The main idea is to realize a novel redundant configration inspired by networked buffering characteristics in gene network, providing many-to-many backup with small amount of additional resources, unlike the one-to-one or one-to-many backup in the traditional redundant systems. We evaluate the fundamental characteristics of the proposed method by computer simulations, and show that the proposed system can largely improve the recovery performance from large-scale failures compared with existing methods.
