A Study on effectiveness of Storage Aware Routing

(in English) Recently, the amount of traffic on the Internet continues to grow by increment of rich content such as video traffic. Not only the overall traffic volume increases but also the time variation becomes large and the difference in the amount of traffic during the peak time and off peak time is very large. Therefore, it is difficult to use the link bandwidth efficiently. In this paper, we propose a new traffic engineering technique which distributes content distribution traffic both in spatial and time dimensions, named Storage Aware Routing(SAR). SAR can shift content distribution traffic, such as video traffic, in time dimension at each router by using storage with large capacity. So, SAR can route content distribution traffic through a router's outgoing link during its low utilization time period. Our performance evaluation by linear programming formulation shows that SAR can smooth link utilization.
