Light Penetration Rate Visualization in Tomato Foliage using Wireless Sensor Networks

(in English) As the penetration rate of light into underfoliage has a high correlation with a plant’s Leaf Area Index, one indicator of plant growth, monitoring the light penetration rate has great significance. The scattered light condition is required for measuring light penetration rate, but it is hard to decide whether the condition is fulfilled in real time. We develop a decision method for the timing of measurements using time-series sensor data from the canopy. Through implementation in tomato foliage, we validate the method’s penetration rate measurement accuracy and high estimation accuracy of Leaf Area Index.
