Guarantee of finising of calculate for a low power accelerator CMA

(in English) Cool Mega-Array (CMA) is a novel high performance but low power
reconfigurable accelerator consisting of a large PE (Processing Element) Array
and small $\mu$ controller.

Since PE array in CMA is pure combination circuits,
the completion time of calculation is not fixed, i.e.,
completion of calculation is depending on the application datapath.
Although the programmer can predict the time of completion
and described in the code of $\mu$ controller,
the exact delay is influenced by the temperature and variance of the product.
The prediction is difficult especially with the advanced process.

In order to address this problem, we propose a hardware mechanism that guarantees the completion of
execution of application, without a negative influence on the power consumption in PE array,
area, and the availability of application as possible.
The delayed signal which shows the completion of calculation is transmitted within PE array.
It is inputted when a calculation starts, propagated on the datapath, and
outputted after the completion of calculation.
The controller can check the signal and gather results automatically.

Using the mechanism, the programmer does not need to describe the completion time of calculation
in a code, with the increase of 1.15\% of area and 0.448\% of electric power.
