We are able to create an entangled photon source using a two-photon emission cascade in a semiconductor quantum dot. The initial proposal was reported in 2000, but experimental implementation has long been challenging because of the inherent anisotropy of grown dots. A variety of sophisticated schemes have been adopted to restore the optical isotropy of dots, while scalability in these techniques are limited. In this talk we report on the growth of highly symmetric GaAs/AlGaAs dots on a (111)A substrate using droplet epitaxy. We successfully observed highly entangled photon pairs that were emitted from the dot. |
