Air Supply in Zigzag-type DMFC with Internal Air Flow Channel

(in English) In recent years, the power consumption of portable devices such as smartphones and notebook PCs has been increasing. These devices thus require a high energy density power supply. Direct Methanol Fuel Cells (DMFCs), whose theoretical energy density is 10 or more times greater than that of current lithium ion batteries, are expected to become the future power sources for such devices. We have previously proposed a zigzag-type DMFC that is suitable for mass production, since it does not require complicated separators, unlike the conventional stack-type structure. However, the air supply becomes insufficient over time and the output decreases.
In the present study, we proposed a new air-supply method that creates an internal air flow channel within the cell and investigated the power output of the DMFC.
