(事前公開アブストラクト) Previous studies on Japanese relative clauses suggested that prediction makes an affect on the processing cost for the relative clause head noun. Our study used a pronoun 'soko' in the relative clause in order to control the influence of the relative clause prediction. The pronoun in the relative clause is bound by a universal quantifier, which appears as a relative clause head. The relative clause head that binds the pronoun in the subject was read slower than that binds the pronoun in the object, suggesting that the previously observed preference for subject relative clause in Japanese could be largely due to the influence of prediction. |
