Rainfall Intensity Forecasting using the Multiple-input Transfer Function with Application to Makassar Case from 2001 to 2010

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Transfer function model combines the causal inputs and output with a kind of convolution. When the input is not single, we use multiple-input transfer function. In rainfall analysis, time series regression is often used. However, in the methods, we assume a simple relation of independent variables and dependent variables. We propose here to apply the multiple-input TF to rainfall data to see whether the method shows superiority over the conventional statistical time series analysis models. We consider here air humidity, temperature, air pressure, and wind speed are to be the multiple-input, and the amount of seasonal rainfall intensity is to be the output; another influence term is expressed as noise. Applying the method to the rainfall data of Makassar (Indonesia) from 2001 to 2010. We have found that the proposed method provides the comparative accuracy to the conventional statistical analysis such as ARIMA and regression methods.
