Improvement of CAD scheme for detection of lacunar infarcts in MR images using AdaBoost template matching

(in English) Asymptomatic lacunar infarcts are often detected in MR images at the health check system for brain diseases. The existence of lacunar infarcts increases the risk of severe cerebral infarctions, and thus their accurate detection is important. However, the identification of all lacunar infarcts is difficult. Therefore, we developed a CAD scheme for the detection of lacunar infarcts. The performance of our previous method indicated that the sensitivity of 96.8% in detection with 0.76 false positive (FP) per slice. Further reduction of FPs was remained as an issue to be solved for the clinical application. In this paper, we proposed AdaBoost template matching technique. By using this technique, 52.9% FPs were eliminated while keeping the same sensitivity. Thus our proposed method found to be useful for sophistication of the automatic detection of lacunar infarcts in MR images.
