Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Specific heat ratios of gases were measured successfully by using ultrasonic. The specific heat ratio was obtained by measuring the ultrasonic velocity variation due to gas temperature change or different gas mixture. Since sound velocity of each gas can be calculated as a peculiar value from its specific heat ratio, gas temperature, and its molecular weight, the sound velocity changes with the temperature and molecular weight variation. Therefore, one can obtain the specific heat ratio by measuring the difference in those values. Furthermore, this ultrasonic equipment is compact and low cost with simple structure; specific heat ratios for variety of gases can be expected to be measured from the speed of sound.
