Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In recent years, the traffic accident occurrence of Japan is decreasing by the spread of ITS technology. However, 40% or more of the traffic accidents between vehicles has been occurred near the crossing of a city area and its rates are very high. In order to operate a vehicle safely, people have to use sense organs, such as vision and hearing, effectively, and always have to pay attention to a surrounding situation. Vision has given most required information to vehicle operation, and lack of the visual cognition and succeeding delay in a response lag are made into the 83% of causes among traffic accidents and resulting in injury or death. Therefore, it is thought that which a driver recognizes visual target correctly leads to the improvement in safety at the time of driving. So, in this experiment, the driver was put also on the partner vehicles side, and head movement, eye movement, and a driving behavior were acquired when two drivers who encountered the crossing using the bidirectional operation simulation equipment supposing the collision upon meeting suddenly which is close to the actual driving condition. The importance of head movement was shown as a result of the experiment. Because, when the rate of a head movement and eye movement was investigated, it was shown from there being many subjects whom the head movement rate showed nearly 50 %. Moreover, it was shown that the driver with low skill level contacted an oncoming car at a crossing by the excess of speed..
