Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) To achieve brain-computer interface (BCI) using sound stimuli in real environment, we evaluated the robustness of P300 detection against noise. P300 is one of the event related potentials (ERP) and exploited for various purposes including BCI. Using the oddball tasks, P300 was induced and observed by the sensor Epoc produced by the Emotiv Co.~Ltd. We used BCI2000Luncher and Operator in BCI2000 to present the sound stimuli. We used two words of “Ue” and “Shita” for the target stimuli, whereas two types of the non-target stimulus were presented. In the first case, the non-target stimulus was only a sinusoid of 440Hz, while in the second case, the non-target stimulus was not only the sinusoid but also ''Ue'' or ''Shita'' which was not used for the target stimulus. We first designed a stepwise linear discriminant classifier using EEG data acquired for noiseless stimuli. Then, we classified data acquired when noisy stimuli were presented. The noise level was set so that the SNR is -20, -15, ..., 10dB. We clarified that for the first case of the non-target stimulus, the classification rate increases suddenly at -5dB like a step function in terms of SNR, while for the second case, it increases gradually depending of the SNR.
