Simulation and Control of Electromagnetic Wave Propagation in 2D Photonic Crystal T-Shaped Waveguide Branches

(in English) With the increasing demand of the higher bandwidth for the next generation wireless communication system, the extension of the operating frequency of the communication system to the upper-millimeter wave or terahertz range of the electromagnetic spectrum will be inevitable. In this paper, the optimum design and the wave propagation characteristics of metal/dielectric photonic crystal T-shaped waveguide based on FDTD method are given. In order to design metallic PhC devices based on perfect conductor model and frequency dependent "Drude-model", the dispersion relations of photonic bandgap are firstly calculated by using the standard plane wave expansion method. Secondly, by adjusting the positions and radii of the metallic and dielectric rods with the square lattice, T-junction switching circuits are demonstrated. Choosing the proper diagonal-line position of a small perturbing rod in the T-junction can change the output channel. As was expected, the EM waves give rise to a “pull-in” phenomenon with a small dielectric perturbation rod resulting in a switching function.
